July 16 - Mpls. to Omaha

Today was a long, driving day. We were a bit bleary eyed due to the length of the All Star baseball game last night. Staying up until the end of the 15th inning might not have been the best idea!
After Ron finished up at the Reserve Center in Mpls., we hit the road. The pictures shown were all taken from the car. I think I must be a farm girl at heart, because I love the open land, huge sky, hay bales, old barns, etc. The windmills are fascinating to me. They are huge metal objects that are so graceful. One of the coolest things about today's drive was the long line of Corvettes we saw. At first, there were just a couple of them and we thought that was kind of funny, in a weird way that we saw four of the same kind of car in a row. Then over the hill came a long line of more of them. I bet we saw about 100 Corvettes (all new looking) in a 20 mile span. Very cool!
I was driving at this time, so Ron was on picture duty. I wish I could post all of the pictures. He got some great ones.
The church/house picture was taken as we pulled into the Engebretsen's house in Laurel, NE. (That's the church where Bill is the Pastor and it's their house.) We had a delicious dinner with Barbara and Emma, and then we went for a long walk. It felt good to be standing, not sitting in a car. During our walk, we stopped at the Dairy Barn where Emma works. She went behind the counter and made us her special banana split. It was huge! She helped us eat it, but even with the three of us, we couldn't finish. I wish I would've taken my camera on our walk - then I'd tempt you with a picture. We also stopped at the swimming pool to see Ian. He's a lifeguard. He was manning the twisty water slide when we were there. As we were leaving town, we stopped at the golf course to see Bill. He was just finishing up. We got to see his last putt. I got my first ride on a golf cart (standing on the back!) to bring us back to the parking lot. As we left Laurel, the full moon was rising over the hills. Beautiful!
We are now in Omaha. Ron doesn't have a Reserve Center to check on here, so we'll spend the morning at the zoo. Then it's off to Oklahoma City to see Katie, Colin, Bailey (their dog), and the Baby E belly bump. We can't wait to see them!
It's after midnight, so I'd better stop.
